Nearly 4000 visitors attended the 8th annual South West Business Expo, aimed at bringing the South West’s best business minds together. The show, which was held at Westpoint Arena in Exeter, attracted more than 270 exhibitors with 25% of them from outside the South West and 46% of them with 11 to 100 employees.
All attendees were able to take part in 26 interactive masterclasses which included former BBCTV Dragons’ Den ‘Dragon’, Rachel Elnaugh, the British entrepreneur who created the £multi-million market leading ‘Red Letter Days’ experience brand, as well as networking with like-minded people to grow their connections and their business too.
Also speaking at the event was Lucy Matthews, Founder of Marvellous PR and author of the Amazon #1 Best Seller on Public Relations ‘A Marvellous Reputation’. Lucy said: “The Expo couldn’t have gone better for us! After my talk, we delivered 22 one-to-one speed-PR sessions which have resulted in five people wanting us to work for them, two bookings for me to be a speaker at other events, some book sales and a good number of businesses wishing to be a part of our PR mentoring package. It’s safe to say that we will be back next year!”
Louise Jones from Hospiscare, said: “This year’s event was fantastic! I have been an exhibitor for a number of years (with Hospiscare and 2 other organisations) and 2019 was by far the best in organisational terms, layout and numbers of visitors and exhibitors. The range of businesses and organisations there was excellent – thank you to all of the team who put the Expo together!”
Janet Milton, Partner at Solicitors Title said: “We exhibited at the very first show, since then it has grown incredibly to be the best business expo in our region – and second largest in the UK. We were impressed by the quality and diversity of the exhibitors and visitors. It was hugely successful for us and we are already working with some of the new clients we secured through the event. The organisational team were exceptional and we cannot praise them enough.”
For the first time this year, a podcast was recorded at the Expo. Focused on the theme of ‘Business Growth in the South West: Challenges and Opportunities’ it is being created to showcase some of the businesses involved to a wider audience. Recorded and produced by Jane Danser at Pure Brand Media, it will be released early in the New Year and will be available on sites including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and YouTube.
Jane said: “It was fascinating to talk to some of the businesses at the Expo about their thoughts on what the secrets to growing your business in the South West Region are. Also how they combat failure in tough economic times. We were lucky enough to interview, amongst many interesting people, Rachel Elnaugh who has really learned the art of bouncing back.”
